BLOODORMAR
& MAAR

Official Guide of the main species of the Zhenista planet.
" The Bloodormar and the Maar are two very different species that share many common points, starting with: the same body!
Indeed, it is a very invasive parasitic relationship that binds the two species. While the Maar can live perfectly fine without the Bloodormar, the reverse is not true: the Bloodormar need to infect a host to live properly and have access to their full potential. Therefore, the body of the Maar is their natural destination. "
Bloodormar and Maar are two different species that share a lot in terms of their host/parasite relationship. Whether you draw a Bloodormar in a Maar or a Maar on its own, the physical characteristics remain the same (except for the parasite, which is added for Bloodormars).
In the early stages, the host may not even notice the Bloodormar parasite. It attaches quietly inside the body, feeding on nutrients and slowly growing. The parasite can infect the host either from birth or when the host is sick, taking advantage of their weakened state. Initially the host might feel temporarily better as the parasite eliminates toxins and provides a strange energy allowing the body to function for a while. It’s a subtle trap. As the parasite grows, it consumes the host’s organs, filling its body and gradually taking control. Once big enough as they can't fit inside anymore, the Bloodormar will devour the tail and replaces it with their slime body extension (parts that don't fit inside anymore). While still alive, the host loses control of its own body and will die in the future unless the Bloodormar choose to not eat vital organs...that almost never happened.
The Maar are a species of bipedal furry aliens, ranging from 2.5 meters to 4 meters tall (8.2 ft to 13.12 ft).
They can take many forms, as this species has greatly evolved and changed a lot depending on the biome of the planet Zhenista. The Maar have many distinct physical traits, based on the following common foundation :
The Maar's face is similar to several Earth species: it combines features from reptiles and canids.
They have nostrils (never a dog’s snout or a cow's muzzle)
Their oversized ears make them easily recognizable, these ears are almost aligned with their eyes.
Their mouth is very long and goes all the way up to the eyes.
For more unique and specific physical traits, refer to the SUBSPECIES page.
A Bloodormar without a host is called a BloodorWorm.
It is a parasite with a viscous body, similar to a slime monster, containing multiple eyeballs. The BloodorWorm can have different colors, textures, and its eyeballs can have various colors and pupils. Its shape is not fixed, and it can reshape itself according to its desires or environment.
BloodorWorms grow during all their life, each time they eat. They start very small (similar to worms) and have no limits. But usually at the end of their life they are not bigger than ~2 times their host.
Without its Maar host, the Bloodormar has much less chance of survival and becomes a prime target both for other Bloodormars and for other wild, healthy agressive species.
Let's take a closer look at the differences & similarities!
The Bloodormar have replaced many/all the organs of their host’s body with their own 'slime' body (similar to how a snail resides in its shell).
To ensure more comfort, the host's body is pierced at the forehead and chest for vision, but sometimes also at other points (depending on their needs or if the parasite starts becoming too large).
The host's body serves as protection, a home, a tool, and a means of locomotion for them. Having a host also allows them to access their full potential, all of their strength, and easily feed.
The Bloodormar’s eyeballs float and move into all the parasite’s body. Most of the time, they are distributed evenly throughout the body to cover potential blind spots.
The Maar have only two eyeballs.
Their tails are long, made of flesh and are either covered in smooth scales or fur.
Their bodies have no holes, and they possess all their organs and bones.
They are alien, anthropomorphic creatures, halfway between canines and snakes. Their species has a great ability to adapt and evolve, which is why there are numerous subspecies, making them ideal hosts for the Bloodormars.
So far, you've discovered the core design of Bloodormars and Maars... but that’s just the beginning.
These species come in a wide variety of forms, each shaped by the environment they evolved in.
These major physical differences are known as Subspecies.
Let’s take a closer look:
Each Subspecies unlocks unique physical traits that make your Bloodormar or Maar truly one of a kind!
Dreaming of fins and aquatic creature? The Swamp subspecies might be for you.
Prefer thick fur and icy vibes? Meet the Thundra subspecies.
More into raptor-like creatures? Then the Arid subspecies is your match.
